Remembering Winston: Our Goofy Companion and Greatest Good Boy
There was no such thing as personal space when Winston was around, and that is precisely how he wanted it. Whether wedged tightly between us on the couch, nestled at the foot of the bed, or following us from room to room like a tall, curly shadow, Winston’s heart was always wherever his family was.
He lived life with pure, unabashed joy. To Winston, the world was full of best friends he hadn’t greeted yet, and he never met a single person he didn't instantly love. Though we lived far from the coast, those special trips to the sand and surf were pure magic for him—a giant poodle bounding through the waves with total delight.
While Poodles are famously brilliant, Winston preferred to lead purely with his big, affectionate heart. He was wonderfully goofy, though he certainly possessed just enough brainpower to calculate the exact reach needed to snag an unattended counter treat when we weren't looking.
The silence in our house now is heavy. We miss the familiar thump-clack of the dog door announcing his grand entrances, and coming home without him waiting at the front door—toy proudly stuffed in his mouth—is the hardest part of our days. He leaves behind his little brother Maverick and sister Lulu, who are missing their big brother just as much as we are.
The empty spot on the couch leaves a void that feels impossible to fill, but the endless snuggles, the sneaky counter snacks, and his lovable spirit left an indelible mark on our home. Winston was our devoted constant, our welcome committee, and the heart of our family.
He will be missed beyond measure, remembered with endless love, and carried in our hearts forever. Rest easy, sweet Winston. You were the absolute best boy.
