TRUFFLE
2014 - 2026
Goodbye my sweet Truffle
I suddenly lost my amazing girl, and I'm still trying to wrap my heart around it. I've long dreaded the day that I would ever have to endure this sadness, but unfortunately, that moment abruptly arrived.
Below are some of my favorite memories of Truffle, candidly relayed from the heart. I took my time with this (hours) because she deserves more than a few words, and I wanted to do my very best to honor the wonderful little girl she was.
Perhaps this post will land in front of animal lovers who can relate and would like to know a little about Truffle and our story, specifically a few of my most favorite memories.
I adopted Truffle on July the 4th 2014. I had no idea what I was getting into. Having a puppy would be fun I thought, and it was, but it was also a massive learning experience. There were so many things I didn't know regarding owning a pet. There were lots of extra expenses, responsibilities, considerations, vet visits, sleepless nights and more. I definitely stumbled while learning the ropes.
She was an only child for a few months, but her curious and playful nature hinted that she would blossom with a sister. We visited many shelters and rescues before she finally chose Dreamy. It was an instant love connection as they locked eyes and had their first interaction. Imagine two little balls of fur rolling around making playful and joyful noises. They were an instant perfect match, with their bond only growing stronger throughout the years to follow.
They did absolutely everything together. One of my favorite things was seeing them cuddled up together, and Dreamy giving her kisses while Truffle slowly closed her eyes and leaned in to soak up all the attention. Their love for one another was so pure. ❤️
She was my stealthy little shadow. It didn't matter where I was, right behind me she would be, patiently anticipating the next step we would be taking together. Most of the time I didn't even realize she was there because of her expert-level ninja skills. However, a few years ago she hurt her wrist frolicking in the yard and developed a slight clicking noise when she walked. So after that, I could hear her happily clicking along behind me. I was never allowed to be anywhere unattended, and I liked it. Because of her, I never felt alone, and on some of the most terrible days, she was my greatest source of companionship and peace.
She missed her calling as a famous circus dog. She had an amazing talent for effortlessly and quickly walking on her hind legs for as long as she wanted. Dangle a treat while walking through the house, and she would enthusiastically follow you on two legs until she got that tasty morsel. She always had her eyes on the prize! It was easy to teach her tricks, and she had an excellent memory. It's my fault she never experienced stardom because I never took her to any casting calls. However, she got lots of applause and praise during the private circus acts she provided throughout the years. She was definitely the star of the show. 🌟 🎪
For such a tiny little girl, she was incredibly athletic with big energy. She loved her daily walks and somehow always managed to motivate her lazy sister Dreamy to eagerly follow along on every adventure. Her lively and curious energy was contagious.
Truffle was smart, loyal, funny and absolutely loved everyone. She never met a stranger.
People would always giggle at her teeth and then try to mimic her adorable underbite, sticking out their jaw to show their bottom teeth too and laughing as they did it. It always made me chuckle that her little grin made other people smile too.
She was not much of a lap dog... unless she was trying to take up that spot so nobody else could have it. By nobody, I mean Dreamy. However, since it really wasn't her thing, she would soon allow her sister the privilege of taking her spot. Silly girl.
Her tail was always up and wagging, while those dark little eyes stared straight into my soul. We knew each other so well that we could read one another without saying a word.
With all the love she ever gave me, she asked for very little in return. When she was hungry, she let me know, gently pawing at my leg with hungry little eyes and tiny whimpers. As we headed to the kitchen to get her food, she would grab the closest toy and squeak it with great delight that she was about to chow down!
When she was ready to play, she knew to pester me until I gave up and joined in the fun. She demanded I take breaks from the computer, and I'm so glad she did. My favorite memories of playtime are that she would get on the couch and bark at Dreamy, who would get excited and start doing zoomies in the living room while Truffle cheered her on. It was truly a hilarious comedy show to watch. She taught me that life is short, so play often.
I loved my little girl dearly and did everything I could to give her a wonderful, safe, happy and fulfilling life. Twelve years with her was a gift, but it will never be enough. I wish we'd had more time.
Her passing was sudden, and our last few days were not what I ever imagined for her. But I don't want her story to end on a sad note. I'll instead focus on remembering the lively, loving, funny, attentive pup who spent 12 wonderful years making my life incredibly better just by being in it.
She taught me patience and the importance of slowing down and savoring every moment. Until I met her, I didn't know a bond with an animal could run so deep. What a wonderful experience!
I will always love you, Truffle. ❤️🐾
You were loved and cherished beyond words, and you always will be. To me, you were a great teacher, entertainer and faithful companion. To Dreamy, you were a wonderful sister and friend who became her whole world. She is lost without you. Thank you for absolutely everything, especially all the endless love, attention, affection and life lessons. Dreamy and I miss you so much.💔
If you read my whole post, thank you. If you never had the chance to meet Truffle, hopefully you feel like you know a little bit about her now and understand why she was so awesome.
